Transparent Text Background in Visio

Overview

Have you ever noticed in Visio how the text of your line connectors have white (not transparent) backgrounds by default? This means it “cuts” your line in half. Sometimes the background is good, such as when you have dark text on a dark background. What I want though is to enter text, a blank line and more text then have the line continue between them. Of course that’s not how it works though. It ends up just looking like this.

Here is what I want it to look like.

Here’s how to do it!

  1. Select one or more items you wish to create a transparent text background for.
  2. Right-click the item then select Format and then Text…
  3. In the Text dialog box that appears, select the Text Block tab.
  4. Under the heading Text background on this tag, select the None radio button.
  5. Click OK.

And now you should have a transparent background for the text on those items. Enjoy!

  1. Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains. If you know of any please share. Many thanks! dedbdedfgkdd

    1. John,

Unfortunately I haven’t spent a lot of time in the SEO arena. I know there are countless companies and subscriptions that allow or claim to immediately increase your search engine rankings. I don’t know of any plugins that actually work to increase your rankings though.

From my experience I’ve found that there are three big things to consider. First is to ensure your site won’t be marked down due to things like not filling in image ‘alt’ values, having keyword lists in the same foreground color as background color or using bad HTML. The second is to have as many popular sites as possible link to your site. This could be done by posting your article on forums or even link sharing with another site. The third is one I’ve come up with for my own placement. Search for keywords or phrases that you want your site to come up under. Inspect what keywords they’re using and use those on your site.

Of course through all of this it’s important to get good metrics. You don’t want a bunch of people visiting your site but leaving within a few seconds for instance. This could also give you good information on the content your visitors like most so you can deliver more of that.

      I hope this helps!
